Throughout these difficult times, South Matrix’s thirty-two-year-old Team Lead, Marlon Douglas, has set a stellar example of strength and drive for his team. Douglas joined the South Matrix team in September of 2019 after moving to Baton Rouge from Kansas City, MO. Born and raised in Memphis, Douglas once dreamt of playing in the NFL. “I had no idea I would end up in this career,” says Douglas, “I accepted a scholarship to Arkansas State University after high school, still dreaming of playing professional football. As I got older, my priorities shifted, and I ultimately graduated from Central Missouri University and began to build my career.”
While his dreams of being a professional athlete may have been left on the field, he brought with him the competitive drive that comes with that caliber of a dream. “I bring a competitive will to win and a strong work ethic,” says Douglas, “I’m the most competitive person I know. I hate to lose more than I like to win.”
A great career will teach you things, even when you think you’ve learned it all. Those who choose not to embody a student mentality are not taking advantage of the opportunities ahead of them. Marlon Douglas has remained open to learning, even as he has begun to lead a team of his own. “I’ve learned a lot since joining the industry,” says Douglas, “My goals have grown ten-fold. I have learned to conquer my mentality and remain optimistic in every situation. I dream of creating generational wealth and helping other people reach their success.”
Like many other industries, business has been affected by the current COVID-19 crisis. However, the South Matrix team remains positive and priority-driven. We know that the essential thing to have is our health; everything else can be rebuilt. “We are all going through an unprecedented period of struggle right now,” says Douglas, “but overall, business is good. I’m blessed to be working and helping people rebuild daily.”
With a career like his, it would be easy to pinpoint any number of accomplishments, but his pride rests out of the office for Marlon Douglas. “I am most proud of my kids,” says Douglas, “each day I strive to prove that I am a great father. I am entirely motivated by my kids.”
How does he do it? How does he keep pushing for his family, for his team, and himself? “I am motivated by the power of the almighty dollar,” says Douglas, “this career has allowed me to be in complete control of every aspect of my life. I have been able to help other people reach their goals, and there is no greater feeling than that.”
As for us, the entire South Matrix team could not be more grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Marlon Douglas. He greets each day with an unrelenting drive, a positive attitude, and a desire to lift those around him.
